Experiments, by their very nature, aren’t about “doing it right”. They are about trial and error and opening up to new discoveries found along the way. Yet, all too often we stay put and play it “safe” – out of fear of failure, or doing it wrong, or believing it has to be perfectly perfect. These fears and limiting beliefs are exactly what keeps you stuck in repeating patterns and creating unwanted results.

By experimenting with new approaches and ways of being, life quickly becomes an adventure again, and new, exciting, creative opportunities begin to show themselves.

To give you a taster, here’s Mission Possible Experiment #1:

The way you do things is, in many ways, as important as WHAT you do.

One of my biggest passions and unique abilities is helping driven dreamers and what I often refer to as “closeted creatives” to break pattern and release themselves from status quo expectations and “shoulds”, while quickly creating a life that they truly can’t wait to get-up-and-out-of-bed-for-in-the-morning.

You’ve likely heard this quote before, frequently credited to Albert Einstein: “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.”

Whoever said it … there’s truth to it.

Making a conscious shift in your routine, even a slight one, can be a way to intentionally shake things up! While routine and consistent approaches can support efficiency and learning new skills … the down-side is that same-old-same-old routines can become monotonous and detrimental, stifling your creative energy and impeding the spontaneity and fun that comes from the unexpected!

These “creature of habit” behaviors can quickly become robotic, unconscious ways of being. For example: Have you even gotten in the car and gone to work, or the gym, or the grocery store, and after arriving realized that you don’t remember the actual drive there?

When you take the same route, time and time again, your mind goes into autopilot. This can happen with your life too. And, especially for us creative thinkers, and innovative dreamers … autopilot gets downright BORING!

So, consider for yourself: What do YOU do, in the same way, virtually every time? What’s YOUR routine?

Step 1) Scan through a typical day in your mind and decide on something that you’ll do differently today – something that breaks up your everyday pattern. Color outside the lines, so to speak, of what’s “typical” for you.

It doesn’t have to be earth shattering to be significant.

Whatever it is that you choose to do differently, allow it to be a symbolic welcoming of new patterns and new experiences in your life. Allow it to serve as a small yet powerful demonstration of your personal willingness to embark on a playful adventure into the unknown.

For example, you might:

  • Take a different route to work.
  • Wear an outfit that you never wear.
  • Eat something new or different.
  • If you always eat with others, eat alone – or vice versa.
  • Call someone you haven’t talked to in years.
  • Switch up your work-out routine, doing something new to work up a sweat.
  • Exit/enter through a different door than you usually do.
  • Maybe go outside and walk around your home in order to get from one room to another. 🙂
  • You get the idea…

Step 2) Pay attention to how it feels.

Tune in and be the Curious Observer of your own experience. Really notice what comes up for you and write down your observations. (For fun, you might pretend you’re wearing a lab coat while you make your notes.) Do your best to resist judging what you notice. Just notice, while staying curious about what you see, feel, and experience.

Dear Dream, I’m ready to deepen our relationship

How would you describe your ideal mate? Perhaps you’ve thought of an image of that person; someone in good health, tall/short, nice smile, athletic, active, generous, social, a dancer, a biker, a skier – the list could go on, right? Or maybe you don’t have a list of your ideal mate’s physical characteristics or interests but certainly you know how you want the interaction within your relationship to be and, more importantly, you likely know how you want to FEEL in this relationship.

You might desire your relationship to be open, honest, caring and loving. You want to FEEL cared for, loved, heard, respected, trusted, supported, appreciated and understood. Because, let’s face it, feeling these things in relationships feels good!

Now, what if I asked you about your relationship with your dream?

  • How would you describe your dream?
  • What does it look like to you?
  • How would you describe your “relationship” with your dream?
  • How do you FEEL about your dream?
  • What does it means to you in your life?

The clearer you get on your CURRENT relationship to your dream, the greater awareness you will have to take your relationship with your dream to the next level!

One topic that is explored at a much deeper level during the 8-week Dream Acceleration™ Program is about relationships. We all know what it means to nurture our relationships with others, right?   • What would it be like to BE your dream in a relationship with YOU?
  • How are you treating your dream right now?
  • Does your dream feel well cared for?
  • Does your dream feel ignored, disregarded, smothered or maybe downright unappreciated?
  • Does your dream feel like no one believes in it or trusts it?
  • Does your dream feel loved?

What are you noticing? Honesty can only serve you here so just notice whatever comes up for you.

You are in a relationship with your dreams – right now. It’s the truth!

These questions are not to make you feel bad, but to shine a light on your CURRENT relationship with your dream and raise your awareness around this. It’s about nurturing your RELATIONSHIP with your dreams…giving them love and attention, and easing up on all the anxiety and doubts that may otherwise surround your relationship.

And, this is not to say that you won’t have doubts or that you need to deny or ignore your hesitations and concerns. But rather…that you begin to just Raise Your Awareness about who you are BEING in your relationship to what it is that you desire.

Another point that is stated many times throughout the Dream Acceleration™ Program is that we always create from the present moment … like the red star on a trail map. You must first identify where you ARE before you can get where you want to go.

As you get more acquainted and familiar with YOUR PART in the relationship, and consciously put *more* attention and energy there…such wonder and possibility awaits!
