I’ve Been Called A Lot of Things

In one of my client sessions yesterday, we coached through a Big Belief Obstacle (a BBO) that: Personal worthiness is tied to others opinion of you. This can be a tough one to navigate beyond! But, oh, how the freedom that lies on other side is sooo worth it … the freedom to live your life and to be fully and truly yourself is an awesome and priceless reward.

I personally have been called a lot of things over the years. Some hurt. And some were so generous and kind that I had a hard time fully receiving them without deflection. Amidst this wide spectrum of things I’ve been called, here are a few that I don’t contest: Gypsy Entrepreneur, Master Coach of 13+ years, Possibility Queen, Writer, Author, Speaker, amateur Salsera, Life Hack Pro, Owner of two location-independent companies (Create Your Life! & Nomadic Leaders) and now, Nomad.

If you’ve been following my journey, you know that I now live full-time in an RV with my boyfriend and dog, traveling the country and working from the road. I’m absolutely loving it. Definitely one of the best decisions I’ve made for myself.

I’m deeply passionate about the work I do, wanting EVERYONE making kick-ass decision for their life. Because this mission and personal calling possesses me so, I am going to be stepping things up in the coming year in terms of sharing my work, because I really want to touch as many lives as possible with what I know transforms and has such an enourmous impact on the human experience.

As a reader and member of my virtual community, I want to check in with you … Are YOU game for receiving some high-level support and kick-ass results in the exciting and sometimes intimidating and frustrating process of creating YOUR dream life?

If so, it’s high-time you and I talk. Especially if you’ve been a curious observer for a while.

Yes, you’re busy – I get it. I’m busy too. But if you and I have never connected, it’s time we do, with a free session. (Yep, my gift to you.) Simply go to www.SessionwithTara.com to pick a time and get on my calendar — be it one of the few remaining spots I have open this month, or select a time for next month. Book it now so it’s in place for you. Know that I’m not attached to any particular outcome in terms of whether or not you decide to become a client, but nonetheless I lovelovelove connecting with people from my community. (If you’re already a client, please consider sharing this with someone you think could benefit from this kind of support.)

Actions speak louder than words. Behavior modification is my specialty, applying my Holistic Leadership MA, my Psychology BA, and extensive work experience. And truth is, talking and thinking about doing something is one thing. But it’s Action that makes the real difference. Put action and a proven process to work on behalf of YOUR dreams, resolutions, and “maybe somedays”.

Tired of “maybe someday”? Let’s talk — my gift to you. Let’s explore the possibilities together. Claim it here: www.SessionWithTara.com

In the mean time, warmest blessings to you and yours this holiday season.

Cheers! To this journey called Life,

The Expanding Tara-tour-y!

If you’ve been following my recent journey, you know that I’ve embarked on an exciting new adventure in nomadic living and remote working. Together with my boyfriend and dog, we are on an open-ended road trip in our 20-foot RV/mobile tiny house.

Last week we were lakeside in northern North Carolina [enjoying sunsets, campfires, simplicity and peaceful serenity while we did our work and followed the rhythms of nature]. The week before, we were in Richmond, VA [went salsa dancing, went on a walking tour of the Liberty Trail, ate yummy falafel, and on Sunday tooled around an artsy little area called Carytown …with no cares about time or to-do’s – the way Sunday is supposed to feel but honestly hadn’t in years…]

And now we’re in the Raleigh/Wake Forest area staying with my step-sister Kellie and her delightful family. Well technically, we’re their driveway neighbors since we brought our house with us and hooked it up to their water and electric. And today, my friend, soul sister, and mastermind colleague, Marcy, had me over for a delicious homemade lunch. So good to see her!

If home is where the heart is, than my home spans continents. I chose this nomadic lifestyle, in part, because it means I can visit friends and family that I don’t get to see very often. It’s a real treat to be getting some in-person time with people I missed, and feeling right at home.

It’s part of what I’m calling ‘The Tara-tour-y’. Get it?

I’m on tour, and I’m my own agent. Our loose plan is to head south and then west.

Want to join the tour?

Want to meet for a bite, and maybe an interview? Want to host us in your driveway? Want to help me line up a book signing in your town? Or a workshop in your living room? Let me know! Let’s see what we can do to coordinate our paths crossing…

Here’s to the unfolding journey!

Make It Your Best Year EVER

As I do every November — I spent a few focused hours doing a Year-in-Review assessment of the closing year AND setting goals for the coming year.

I’ve been doing this as a personal practice for more than a decade and have been coaching others to do this for more than a decade. Each year, I make tweaks and improvements as I see fit.

And I must say … that my newest Weekly Progress Template is my best, most cohesive, no BS version, to date! It’s the creme-de-la-creme of Weekly Progress Templates.

I’m, of course, happy to share it with YOU – for you to adapt and use as you see fit, all in support of Your Best Year EVER!

First, here’s a no-nonsense truth about goal setting: Goal setting, by itself, doesn’t work. Your goals and intentions must be paired with an ongoing, consistent, aligned, action plan – a way to stay in momentum with the intentions you’re setting out to accomplish and create.

That’s why, in addition to setting my 2018 goals, I have also blocked out time in my calendar (on repeat, the same day, same time, every single week) to fill out this new-and-improved Weekly Progress Template.

Here ’tis:

The Create Your Life! Weekly Progress Template

THREE Gratitudes/Celebrations From the Past Week:

JOURNAL after considering the following questions:

What went well this week? What didn’t go so well? How do I feel? Where might I have overcommitted? Where did I come up against resistance? What can I do different next week to better support my goals, dreams, values, and intentions? Where do I need support?

THEN, fill in this chart … 5 Life “Buckets” + 1 Specific Goal per Bucket + This Week’s Challenging-But-Doable Action Step

A Bold Life Experiment

Experiments, by their very nature, aren’t about “doing it right”. They are about trial and error and opening up to new discoveries found along the way. Yet, all too often we stay put and play it “safe” – out of fear of failure, or doing it wrong, or believing it has to be perfectly perfect. These fears and limiting beliefs are exactly what keeps you stuck in repeating patterns and creating unwanted results.

By experimenting with new approaches and ways of being, life quickly becomes an adventure again, and new, exciting, creative opportunities begin to show themselves.

What I’m sharing with you here is two-fold:

  1. Give a sneak-peak into Day 1 of my *FREE* 5-Day Mission Possible Experiments-in-Action Program.
  2. Share a BOLD personal experiment I’m about to embark on in my own life.

So first, the scoop on the 5-day Mission Possible Experiments-in-Action experience — which you can claim here, my gift to you — is that it simply requires a willingness to engage in each of our five specially-designed, unique, powerful, fun, hands-on, can’t-do-it-wrong Experiments. Designed with busy people in mind, each high-impact experiment can easily be integrated into your day no matter what your schedule is.

And since “someday” is not a day of the week, it all starts NOW, with you creating a pure and powerful dream-accelerating ripple effect in your life, dusting off those dreams that have been put way up on that hard-to-reach shelf, or have been locked away or long forgotten – or that simply feel too unrealistic or impossible to ever actually come to fruition.

The 5-Day Experiments-in-Action Program will help you get personal with your dreams, open up to new discoveries, and activate that powerful, playful, dormant creativity that resides within YOU. Whether you are a manifesting aficionado, or have never really given your dreams much attention or importance, or maybe aren’t sure what your dreams are — either way, you will receive so much from this FREE Program.

To give you a taster, here’s Mission Possible Experiment #1:

The way you do things is, in many ways, as important as WHAT you do.

One of my biggest passions and unique abilities is helping driven dreamers and what I often refer to as “closeted creatives” to break pattern and release themselves from status quo expectations and “shoulds”, while quickly creating a life that they truly can’t wait to get-up-and-out-of-bed-for-in-the-morning.

You’ve likely heard this quote before, frequently credited to Albert Einstein: “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.”

Whoever said it … there’s truth to it.

Making a conscious shift in your routine, even a slight one, can be a way to intentionally shake things up! While routine and consistent approaches can support efficiency and learning new skills … the down-side is that same-old-same-old routines can become monotonous and detrimental, stifling your creative energy and impeding the spontaneity and fun that comes from the unexpected!

These “creature of habit” behaviors can quickly become robotic, unconscious ways of being. For example: Have you even gotten in the car and gone to work, or the gym, or the grocery store, and after arriving realized that you don’t remember the actual drive there?

When you take the same route, time and time again, your mind goes into autopilot. This can happen with your life too. And, especially for us creative thinkers, and innovative dreamers … autopilot gets downright BORING!

So, consider for yourself: What do YOU do, in the same way, virtually every time? What’s YOUR routine?

Step 1) Scan through a typical day in your mind and decide on something that you’ll do differently today – something that breaks up your everyday pattern. Color outside the lines, so to speak, of what’s “typical” for you.

It doesn’t have to be earth shattering to be significant.

Whatever it is that you choose to do differently, allow it to be a symbolic welcoming of new patterns and new experiences in your life. Allow it to serve as a small yet powerful demonstration of your personal willingness to embark on a playful adventure into the unknown.

For example, you might:

  • Take a different route to work.
  • Wear an outfit that you never wear.
  • Eat something new or different.
  • If you always eat with others, eat alone – or vice versa.
  • Call someone you haven’t talked to in years.
  • Switch up your work-out routine, doing something new to work up a sweat.
  • Exit/enter through a different door than you usually do.
  • Maybe go outside and walk around your home in order to get from one room to another. 🙂
  • You get the idea…

Step 2) Pay attention to how it feels.

Tune in and be the Curious Observer of your own experience. Really notice what comes up for you and write down your observations. (For fun, you might pretend you’re wearing a lab coat while you make your notes.) Do your best to resist judging what you notice. Just notice, while staying curious about what you see, feel, and experience.

The entire 5-day process is simple AND it’s powerful. Join me for this 5-day Experiments-in-Action Program and by this time next week, you will have uncovered new ideas, possibilities, and solutions for your life that you hadn’t seen before … all by simply integrating one experiment per day that can be easily done, no matter what your schedule!

As promised, here’s the more personal second part of my share with you today. Want to know about the BOLD experiment I’m about to embark on in my own life?  Click below to read more and follow the journey…

Pregnant With A Dream: Meeting Lisa Nichols

Are YOU Pregnant With a Dream?  Now, I don’t mean a baby – but rather a dream that you KNOW you are meant to bring to life, to birth something that *if you don’t* you’ll always wonder what could have been…

In the words of Marianne Williamson “Each of us is pregnant with a better version of ourselves.”

So true.  I know first-hand what it feels like to have dreams that scare the bejesus out of me, and to simultaneously know that I *MUST* bring them to life, despite my sometimes overwhelming fear. That’s why I wrote the book, Are You Pregnant With a Dream?

As life coach and founder of Create Your Life!, I know what it takes to go from Fear to Freedom, and I have coached hundreds, soon to be thousands, on the magic and momentum that takes hold when my 9-step Dream Acceleration(TM) Process gets activated.

In September 2013, after watching a YouTube video of Ms. Lisa Nichols speaking (she was in the movie The Secret, a Chicken Soup for the Soul author, founder of Motivating the Masses, and so much more…) a dream was activated in me: I wanted to meet her.  Not in a celebrity-crazed-kind-of-way.  But in a … this-woman-is-powerful-and-the-real-deal-and-I-feel-absolutely-compelled-to-do-whatever-I need-to-to-meet-and-talk-to-her kind of way.  And, proof to the power of a dream-in-action, just two short months later, it happened!

Here are some “selfies” that Lisa Nichols and I took after a little heart-to-heart.

(Read more on what’s extra-special about THIS photo below.)

And here’s one of her working her magic on stage:

A quick aside about that second photo of us standing in front of the Lisa Nichols poster:

I noticed that, in the poster, she has braces on her teeth – and I asked her about it.  Now, really, do you think she could have had that photoshopped out before blowing it up into a great big stand-on-it’s-own poster?  Shoot. Let’s be honest … I would’ve!

Of course she could have!  BUT – she had braces when the photo was taken, so that’s what’s in the picture.  How’s THAT for a little window into how *REAL* this woman is.  🙂

It was a true honor and a privilege to not only meet her, but even more … after our off-stage connection, there was a moment (during the height of her guiding the room through a mind-blowing belief transformation process), that I SAW her.  And – she saw me see her.

People were shouting and crying and doing all kinds of wild, free and full self-expression … an experience that left every person in that room forever changed …

She did what only the best speakers do: she got herself out of the way.  And in that moment, I SAW HER, with tears in her eyes, as the room was divided into our small groups doing the exercise she had given us to do.  She and I locked eyes.  It’s was a pregnant pause.  Beautiful beyond words.  One that I will never forget it.

Thank you, Lisa Nichols. Thank you Universe of Possibility.  It’s good to be alive.  It’s not always easy – but it’s so so good…  We are absolutely in this together.

So, again, may I ask … Are YOU Pregnant With a Dream?

May your dreams always inspire more than they intimidate.

Love and blessings,

Tara

Basement & Bathtub Mojo

Joy to you!

Those of you who know my story, know that my dream realization mojo really kicked into gear from the depths of the dark, musty, basement apartment where I lived … for 3 years!

bathYep. At the time, I was absolutely drowning in debt and I spent most Friday and Saturday nights with my cat. Trust me, the metaphor was not lost on me that my basement “digs” were a constant reminder that I was LITERALLY underground. Yet, it was there that I started to dream … determined and believing that that there had GOT to be a better way!

I used to look out my tiny-tiny window – with the view of the sidewalk and the tires of cars passing by – and I’d dream. While I didn’t know it at the time, this is where seeds of Create Your Life! were born.

Now, not only was my apartment in a basement, it had a teeny-tiny *black* bathroom – yes, black paint(!) was on the walls. (Trust me, I thought many times about re-painting, but I simply couldn’t stand to be IN there long enough to repaint it!)  My teeny-tiny black bathroom, of course, had a stand-up shower.  Oh, how I DREAMED of a bathtub!!

So when I *finally* moved out – and bought a house (which is another story for another time) – a bathtub was one of my non-negotiable requirements. And to this day, I love and cherish my bathtub.  It is, to me, a sacred place of respite. A few candles, some bath salts – sometimes a glass of wine – and my bathtub becomes an at-home spaaaaaaahhh…  A mini-vacation. No packing or travel required.

How ’bout you?  What is the ultimate retreat for you? What are some of the ways you give yourself a delicious break? How do you create sacred, rejuvenating time for yourself?

Do YOU need a vacation? Or, at the minimum, a break for some “you time” to unwind, to regroup, to rejuvenate?  And really … who couldn’t benefit from having more R & R?

Do You Dream of Time OFF?

Taking time off is an important part of holistic self-care and well-being. Here in the U.S., summer is fast approaching …a common time for long weekends with family and friends, days at the beach, boating, camping, hiking, gardening, barbeques, and just kickin’ back for some rest and relaxation!

Sound refreshing and inviting? Comforting and balancing? Or does it create a feeling of inner confusion and anxiety … wanting to take time off but fearing that there will be a high price to pay?

vacaWhen was the last time YOU took an honest vacation? When was the last time you truly “unplugged” from the daily grind and felt renewed, refreshed, and invigorated?

Imagine YOU … not working … and not even thinking about work.  Your energy is instead fully available for other things. It might be an hour, a weekend, a week, or a full month!  Either way, it’s precious and delightful time OFF!

Have YOU taken time off yet this year? Do you have plans for time off in the coming months? It’s not too late (or too early) to start planning and schedule this time on your calendar – you could do this right now.  Why not take this opportunity to sit down with your calendar, decide on and then DO whatever needs to be done to support YOU having some time off?

Notice: What’s coming up for you?  Are you hearing yourself say, for example:

  • “When I’m done with this project then maybe I’ll look at my calendar.”
  • “I don’t have time, with my family commitments and all..”
  • “I haven’t worked hard enough to really deserve time off.”
  • “There’s no money in the budget for a vacation.”
  • “Time off will only set me back and create more work.”
  • “I would love to but…(fill in the blank)”

Let me say … I am in no way suggesting that you re-mortgage your house or plunk down the credit card to go on an extravagant vacation. Yet here’s the risk of letting these thoughts stop you from saying “YES” to time off altogether …

It’s exactly these kinds of thought patterns of undeservedness or “someday” or “later” thinking, that can lead to a sense of martyrdom, to feeling unappreciated, to setting yourself up for burn out, AND neglecting your need for R & R can even have an adverse effect on your healthkiddie pool and well-being.

We *all* need time off!  And, truth is, taking time off allows us to be much more productive and engaged during our time on!

Time off is about shifting gears to support your holistic well-being. Time off is a KEY piece to creating true Success Synergy: a balance of working AND not working. It is an investment in well-being, and frankly … the alternative is unsustainable.

If you DON’T give yourself time to re-charge, your body will eventually demand it but – why wait ’til your bod is SCREAMING for you honor this basic need?!?  Your know better. It’s really about being someone who honors this need and allows *space* in your mind, in your heart, and in your LIFE for what nourishes you – doing what you need to do to prioritize and support of your own self-care. And really: if you don’t do it, who will?

Even if you don’t know yet exactly how or where you’re going to spend your time off, it’s important to make a commitment to carving out that time NOW. That means time unplugged – not working. (Yes, even if you *love* your job. And yes, even if the budget is tight.)

Again – there are no rules about distance, duration, or cost. A frankly, an extravagant vacation doesn’t not necessary mean a more rejuvenating vacation. So, make it your own. It could be a stay-cation!  Time off can be as simple as YOU, a magazine, and a lawn chair.  It’s about carving out “you time” – time dedicated to NOT working and NOT thinking about work. Claim it and make it yours!  Enjoy!

May your dreams always inspire more than they intimidate,

Meet a Create Your Life! Dreamer (You are NOT the only one.)

Meet JaninaJanina

“Have you had such amazing opportunities in your life that seemed like they were delivered to the wrong person or at the wrong time?

You think: “This couldn’t be for me! This is too much! It sounds great but add one more thing to my plate?”.

But something inside you feels inspired to go with it and to go FOR it!  And when you look back, you know that was a GIFT and it was such a pivotal event that changed so much?

Two years ago, when I was presented with and considered the 8-week Dream Acceleration™ Program those were the questions I was asking myself!!!  But when the nudge and inner feelings said “go for it”, I committed to devote 2 months to learn more and be open to whatever that meant for me at the time.

For 8 weeks, I experienced emotions that went all over the place – scared to learn something new about myself, excited to grow and expand, grateful for meeting new people and forming relationships who I knew were key in supporting me in the changes, learnings and shifting that I was experiencing during that time.  Now I feel NO REGRETS!  Those 8 weeks of material gave me so much to think about in my life – I felt like I had more CHOICES and discovered I had PERMISSION to decide what was right and good for me and SEE what was really possible!

When an opportunity comes along like this – AND at a significant price reduction – how can you not at least see what it is about and consider how it might create shifts in your life? If you have thoughts, concerns or questions, please feel free to message me.”

What marathons mean to me

marathonThere are a lot of things happening in our world right now … things that don’t make sense and have us asking a lot of tough questions.  Maybe you are way beyond the point of asking questions – and *really* just want answers! How do we make sense of it all? What’s it all mean?  Why is this happening now? And what can or should we do about it?

I don’t have the answers, but what I DO know is that a powerful way to bridge healing and understanding, is through sharing our feelings and our stories. So with that in mind and heart … I want to share a bit about what marathons mean to me.

The day after the bombing, I read an article that really resonated entitled “The People Who Watch Marathons” by Erin Gloria Ryan. Here’s a quote from the article:

One of the many puzzling aspects of yesterday’s attacks was the question of what, exactly, the perpetrators thought they’d accomplish by targeting what basically amounts to a celebration of human tenacity. If anything, the tragedy in Boston will further solidify the bond between runner and spectator … If anyone thought this attack would discourage the runners or the watchers, they’ve clearly never been to a marathon.”

Ditto THAT!  As a kid, I saw my dad, at 50 years old, proudly cross the finish line of his first marathon (and then throw up). I also watched and celebrated as my sister who, as part of a relay team, crossed a marathon finish line. Several other relatives and friends of mine have also prevailed over this extraordinary 26.2 mile challenge.

On several occasions, I’ve been known to attend, to cheer, and to be moved to tears – for hours – at marathons with no one I know (or know that I know) in them.  And while it pales in comparison to a marathon, on the receiving end, as someone who has run two 5K races, I’ve been so incredibly grateful for the energy and encouragement of spectators.

My heart is with all who were effected by what happened in Boston on April 15th.

In the spirit of banding together, let’s take pause and really invest in giving ourselves the gift of time for reflection, to consider how to best make YOUR contribution to the joy and peace of the world.  The time is NOW.

May your dreams always inspire more than they intimidate,

Dreaming is Fun

nycaptA few weeks ago, after declaring that I want to spend more time in – and possibly move to – NYC, I signed up to receive email updates about NYC rental listings through Elliman Properties.  I went on their website and created my “profile” with my price ranges, etc. so I could receive email notifications of the shoe boxes available for me to choose from.  :-/

Since then, I’ve been receiving daily emails for, not rentals – but properties for sale, into the range of $27 Million. Funny, huh?

I’ve written to them twice about this and received a reply that they fixed it for me.  But they didn’t.  I continue to receive sale listings into the millions, which I’ve decided is fine with me for now because I’m actually really enjoying it.  (Could the Universe be telling me something?)

Anyway, of all I’ve seen, there’s one listing (that happens to be under $1M – cheap!) that makes my dreamin’ self swoon. Wanna see it?

Do you realize your dream risks?

Nyc dancers

Joy to You!

As Dream Realization Coach and “Dream Queen,” I want to share a dream of my own – AND a special Dream Acceleration™ Exercise to support YOUR dream realization process with a make-it-real Dream Risk Assessment.

The photo on the right is of a recent dance “field trip” to NYC with some of my Providence Salsa Family.

We had a BLAST – after a 3-hour lesson in the afternoon with world-class teachers, we found our way to a Salsa Social at night that was AWESOME. Talk about energy! Whew! By the end of the night, my feet where aching, I was drenched in sweat, and my heart was SO happy.

Let the record show: I love ‘lil Rhody.

And every few months, I find an excuse to go to NYC to get my Big Apple fix, which is something that can continue … BUT lately, I’m finding that the more I go, the less I want to leave!

I’ve done the Risk Assessment Exercise (see below for details) about my budding dream to live in NYC, and I’ll be honest, my list in column #1 is L-O-N-G!  But since I think I’ll always wonder if I don’t (column #2) … I’m starting to take steps to plant seeds and find out more about what would need to happen to make the move. In case there was any doubt … know that we – you and I – are absolutely in this ongoing dream realization process together.

Let’s support one another.  Please leave a comment below about your own dreams-in-the-works and your Risk Assessment results, ok?

A Dream Acceleration Exercise for You:

In order to discover what’s under the bed or hiding in the unrealized dreams closet, this exercise will bring awareness to, and shine a light on, what might have you stuck.  This is a chance to set aside those reasonable reasons long enough to honor your DEEPER wisdom, connect to your bravery, and gain clarity about why you are where you are.

Ready? Set? Go!

Grab a blank piece of paper and fold it in half vertically or draw a simple table with two columns.

Label column 1: “Risks In Realizing my Dream of (fill in the blank).”

Then jot down the RISKS and costs that come to your mind about pursuing and realizing your dream.  Ask yourself these questions: What’s at risk if I am living my dream?  What do I need to consider in taking this leap of faith?  If you’re like most, it’s probably pretty easy for you to come up with risks considering your dream realization journey.

And most people stop right there. What’s too often NOT considered is identifying the costs of NOT pursuing your dream. What’s at risk if you DON’T go for it …  if you DON’T move forward into action?

Column 2: “Risks of NOT Pursuing My Dream of (fill in the blank).”
Jot down the first things that come up for you around these questions:
  • What’s at risk if I don’t take action and move forward on my dream?
  • What’s the risk of always wondering?
  • What might the impact be on your happiness – even on your health?
  • How confident and proud of yourself will you be if you don’t explore the possibility?
  • And, lastly, how will it feel to always wonder about what could have been?

Only you know this answer for you, but as someone who has coached folks from age 18 to 78, I know keeping your deepest desires and dreams stored away, in a neat and tidy little box, to be a HUGE RISK!

Allow this exercise to support you.  More often than not, when there’s an honest assessment of not only the risks of going-for-it, but also the risks of staying exactly where you ARE … the costs of not finding out often far outweigh the potential costs and risks of going for it.

However big, small, silly or vague you may think your dream is, I believe that like the little sprouting acorn, your dreams are the voice of your soul, ready to burst through any obstacles and grow and live in the world.  And, there’s simply no way around the fact that in order to follow your dreams, you’ll absolutely need to leave your safe have and align yourself with support from those who believe in you and your dreams.
